Using generative AI to transform event photography into data-driven brand assets

What are Brand Hero Cards? 


Brand Hero Cards are an AI-powered experiential marketing tool that converts standard event photography into personalised, collectible assets – like trading cards or "passports" – using real-time user data and generative AI images.

The Problem

The classic photobooth is a crowd favorite and an undisputed icon of event marketing and experiential. It provides immediate joy, sometimes a physical keepsake, and a shared moment. However, in an increasingly digital-first landscape, brands are looking for ways to extend the interaction.
 

The challenge for experiential marketers is how to differentiate the photo experience from the classic and the expected, and make the photo more personalised beyond the photo. Usually, once the photo is taken, the story ends. For high-concept activations such as tech summits, gaming launches, or sports expos, brands risk a superficial connection with their guests. Marketers need a way to integrate the user themselves into the creative output to make the photo souvenir feel less generic and more like a personalised reward.


The standard snapshot is a beautiful memory, but it can struggle to stand out, and may lack the personalisation that drives modern social sharing.
 

The Idea: From Photography to World-Building

We’re moving from basic photography and into world-building. Instead of a standard photo booth, we’ve built an "alter-ego engine." The idea is simple: we stop treating guests like a face in a photo and start treating them like the main character.

 

How it works:

  1. The Character Creator
    Before posing for the camera, the user engages with a survey. They input the variables or "core stats" – professional specialties, personality types, or even favourite aesthetics.

  2. Generative AI Integration
    Our system doesn’t just apply a filter, it reconstructs the user’s likeness using real-time data or options shared by the user.

  3. The customised output
    Generative AI blends the user's photo with their survey data to create a themed identity asset – a collectible trading card, a vintage "passport," or a superhero profile.

 

The concept is simple but technically sophisticated: we treat the user not as a subject, but as a Player Character. The guests' input will guide the generation of the final product – whether it’s their name, their city or birthday, or their "core stats" (favourite number, professional specialty, or personality type), we can build a system that uses those details for content generation.

 

The hard part is stopping at only making one! Once guests see their first transformation, they’re immediately back at the start to see who else they can become.

Built for brand activation and personalisation

 

By using AI integrated with real-time survey inputs, we create a physical product that is completely unique and personally valuable. We aren't just giving them a photo, we are giving them a collectible version of themselves, and a valuable item connecting the guest to your brand.


In this imaginary pet-store example, the user is asked for 

  • The name of the owner

  • The name of the pet

  • The type and breed of the pet

  • Whether the pet is young / adult / senior

The Results:

 

By shifting the output from a classic photo to a "trading card", we design for a different behavior. 


Because the user survey is also a "Character Creation" screen, some of the friction of data collection vanishes. Users may more willingly provide data because it directly dictates the output of their card. This may provide brands with a rich database of attendee profiles that can be far more detailed than a simple email list.


Unlike a standard photo, these Hero Cards invite comparison. Natural engagement can emerge at activations with cards as easy icebreakers, as guests linger to compare stats, builds, and visuals.


A "Persona Card" has a perceived value that ensures it survives the journey home. It goes onto the fridge or perhaps onto LinkedIn and Instagram. Your guest is sharing a stylized version of their identity that was "unlocked" at your event. By giving them the tools to visualize their professional or personal alter-ego, your brand stops being a backdrop and instead becomes the source of their favorite piece of content from the day.

Versatile applications across industries


The Hero Card engine scales to any high-traffic environment where fan engagement and luxury personalisation are key:
 

  • Luxury retail & fashion: The system output integrates the user’s likeness into a generative environment inspired by the collection’s aesthetic. This allows the brand to collect zero-party data on what is resonating with their VIPs, enabling more sophisticated service and hyper-personalised post-event follow-ups.

  • Sports: At major sports events guests can create a personalized "Player Profile" or "Fan Pass" as AI generates an action portrait of the guest in the athletic context. This allows the team or sponsor to capture information on the guest’s preferences and level of engagement with the sport, or other relevant information.

  • Hospitality & Travel: The perfect customised travel portrait that will serve as inspiration for the next destination. This special portrait could be tailored according to activity level, geographic location and price point, mapping out a guest's travel intent, from destination interest to budget tier.

  • Music & festivals: Attendees at a music festival can input their favorite sub-genres and "festival vibe" to receive a backstage-style Artist Pass, turning a special moment into the guests’ own collectible item.

This is an example from an imaginary tech summit, with a booth that turns the conference experience into a souvenir.


The user is asked for the following information:
 

  • Name

  • Job title

  • Select your preferred workflow (Dropdown options)

  • What is the most interesting thing you saw at the summit?

  • Select your networking goal (Dropdown options)


All the input will influence the AI generated image, as well as personalise the content and make the experience and result fun. At the same time the expo organiser will collect useful information about their audience, what was memorable to them and their goal for attending the event regarding connecting other guests. The cards naturally invite comparison and discussion.
